What is a Garden?
A piece of ground or other space, commonly with ornamental plants, trees, etc., used as a park or other public recreation area: a public garden. a fertile and delightful spot or region.

- A formal garden is a garden with a clear structure, geometric shapes, and in most cases a symmetrical layout. Its origin goes back to the gardens which are located in the desert areas of Western Asia and are protected by walls.
- Mughal, Persian, Italian, French, and American gardens
★ Informal Garden :
- Informal simply means that the garden follows much looser lines, and curves and usually takes its design from the lay of the land. You may follow the curves of your land boundary, driveway, house walls, a stream, set of trees, or where the sun casts its warming rays.
- Ex. Home Gardens, Kitchen Gardens, Cottage Gardens
★ Free Garden :
- The free garden is a garden in motion, which is freely renewed over the seasons and according to the plants, alongside low walls and fences. The principle of this garden is to assign a biotope to it to make the mixture of plants and animals harmonious.
- Ex. Any Type of garden without any maintenance of any bare land.
- The wild style of gardening follows no rules, but the aim is to make the garden beautiful and natural. A wide variety of trees, plants, and creepers are used naturally. No formal rules are followed and plants are allowed to grow in their natural shapes.
- Ex. The plants are grown in such a way that they are in the forest.
